Ontario Reopens EV ChargeON Program

Ontario has opened the latest round for applications to the EV ChargeON program, which supports the installation of electric vehicle charges across that province for the public.

The Ontario Ministry of Transportation has made available $66 million to expand the network, designed to encourage the switch to electric vehicles.

The program accepts applications from businesses, not-for-profit corporations, municipalities, Indigenous communities and organizations, and broader public sector institutions such as hospitals, universities, colleges, and school boards.

But the window closes soon, as applicants must be submitted by Dec. 15, 2025.

The program caps the government’s contribution at $1 million per project, and there are varying levels of commitment, depending on location, the applicant type and the site’s hours of operations (75 per cent for Northern Ontario; indigenous communities, businesses and municipalities with populations below 170,000).

Large municipalities above 170,000 people, businesses, not-for-profit corporations, and the broader public sector can receive up to 50 per cent.

Sites offering restricted access of less than 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, are eligible for only 25 per cent of funding coverage.
