Government of Manitoba Introduces New Right-To-Repair Bill

Automotive Industries Association of Canada welcomed new right-to-repair legislation introduced by the Government of Manitoba, calling it a positive step for independent repair businesses and consumers.

Tabled as Bill 15, the Consumer Protection Amendment Act, the legislation proposes a sector-by-sector regulatory framework that would initially focus on improving access to repair information and parts. Industry stakeholders, including collision and mechanical repair businesses, are expected to help shape future regulations through consultation.

AIA Canada said the move signals growing recognition among governments of the need for ensuring fair competition in the vehicle repair market.

The auto care sector contributes more than $1.3 billion to Manitoba’s economy and supports over 18,000 jobs, many in rural communities. According to AIA Canada, stronger right-to-repair protections could help independent shops remain competitive while giving motorists more affordable repair options.
