April 10, 2026 – ICBC announced a $13.3 million investment over four years to support apprenticeship training in British Columbia’s collision repair sector, aiming to address labour shortages and reduce repair delays. The initiative was unveiled at Vancouver Community College alongside industry representatives, including Automotive Retailers Association board chair Rick Hatswell.
The funding introduces new grants for ICBC Repair Network facilities to expand apprenticeship opportunities for auto body, collision repair, and automotive refinishing technicians. Eligible shops can receive up to $56,500 per apprentice, offsetting a significant portion of training costs.
Additional measures include targeted support for women and Indigenous apprentices, as well as travel funding for those in rural areas who need to access training. The program also recognizes alternative pathways into the trades.
Funding is tied to annual training progression and Red Seal certification, encouraging timely completion. ICBC says the initiative will help shops build capacity and improve repair turnaround times while maintaining safety and quality standards.
