The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) is encouraging collision repair and refinishing professionals to maintain or advance their industry certifications through its collision repair and refinish testing program.
ASE offers four certification tests for collision repair technicians:
- B2 – Painting and Refinishing
- B3 – Non-Structural Analysis and Damage Repair
- B4 – Structural Analysis and Damage Repair
- B5 – Mechanical and Electrical Components
The certification series is designed to recognize technicians who possess the knowledge and skills required to analyze and repair collision damage and restore vehicle finishes. The tests are intended for technicians working in collision repair facilities.
ASE also offers the B6 Damage Analysis and Estimating certification test for estimators working in collision repair shops, insurance companies, or as independent adjusters.
Technicians who successfully complete certifications B2 through B5 earn the designation of ASE Certified Master Collision Repair Technician.
“The ASE collision repair and refinish tests help technicians demonstrate their ability to properly repair vehicle damage and restore paint finishes to high standards,” said Dave Johnson, president and CEO of ASE. “By successfully completing these rigorous tests and earning the Master Collision Repair Technician designation, technicians demonstrate a high level of professional knowledge and expertise.”
ASE provides free online study guides for all certification tests. The guides include test specifications, task lists, sample questions, and training resources to help candidates prepare.
