AkzoNobel has built a new acrylics facility in Monterrey, Mexico, as part of a $60 million Powder Coatings investment in North America.

Upgrades at three facilities aim to increase capacity, strengthen regional supply chains, and support emerging automotive and mobility technologies.

AkzoNobel is investing $60 million in its North American powder coatings operations, upgrading production capabilities and infrastructure at three facilities in Reading, Pennsylvania; Warsaw, Indiana; and Monterrey, Mexico.

The investment aims to increase local production capacity, strengthen regional supply chains, and meet demand for advanced powder coatings across automotive, commercial vehicle, and industrial markets. The technologies also serve emerging applications in next-generation mobility, battery systems, and energy storage.

“Manufacturing continues to evolve rapidly, and our customers expect partners who are investing alongside them,” says Jeff Jirak, managing director of AkzoNobel’s Powder Coatings business and member of the company’s Executive Committee.

“This investment strengthens our North American manufacturing network, expands our advanced production capabilities and reinforces our long-term commitment to helping customers innovate, improve supply chain resilience and bring high-performance products to market.”

Upgrades across three facilities

At its Reading facility, which produces approximately 45% of AkzoNobel’s North American powder coatings batches, the company has added three production lines, advanced bonding technology, and automated process controls.

In Warsaw, production capacity has increased by 30%, accompanied by a 10% increase in the workforce.

The Monterrey site has added a new acrylics facility as part of the broader investment.

AkzoNobel is also investing in workforce development through advanced manufacturing training and technical upskilling to help employees operate next-generation production technologies.

The upgrades are designed to strengthen the company’s regional manufacturing network while supporting customers across established markets and emerging applications.
