July 20, 2026 — Car-O-Liner has introduced the AW-Tong, a water-cooled, fully automatic welding accessory designed for use with its CTR9 resistance spot welder.
The accessory operates using the same welding parameters as the CTR9 and is fully compatible with existing CTR9 systems, allowing collision repair shops to expand their welding capabilities without changing established workflows.
“The AW-Tong combines the speed and precision technicians expect from the CTR9 platform with a water-cooled, fully automatic system designed for high-volume production,” said Doug Bortz, manager of collision sales, North America, for Car-O-Liner.
“The swivelling ergonomic handle allows technicians to maintain a comfortable working position from virtually any angle, while the system automatically handles calibration, material thickness measurement, and parameter selection to help deliver consistent welds.”
In fully automatic mode, the AW-Tong performs a self-calibration check before welding begins. As the tool is moved into position, it automatically measures the thickness and type of material, selects the appropriate welding parameters, and displays the weld results on the CTR9 control unit, providing technicians with a real-time record of each completed weld.
The water-cooling system is designed to maintain operating efficiency during extended use, supporting higher production workloads. The AW-Tong also features a different electrode orientation than the CTR9’s C-Arms, allowing technicians to access weld locations that may otherwise be difficult to reach.
The CTR9 resistance spot welder features a lightweight transformer gun with a 355-degree swivel handle and an ergonomic grip designed to improve operator comfort. Separate adjustments for the welding arm and handle allow technicians to position the electrodes for access while maintaining a comfortable grip throughout the repair.
The AW-Tong is the latest addition to Car-O-Liner’s CTR9 welding system.
