July 3, 2026 — ProColor Collision Cowansville is entering a new chapter as the fourth generation of the McDermott family joins the long-established collision repair business.
The Cowansville repair facility has served the local community for more than 50 years. Its history took an unexpected turn in 1974 when founder Gerald McDermott died in a traffic accident. His wife assumed responsibility for the business before their son later joined the operation, helping guide its growth and long-term stability.
Alain McDermott joined the family business in the mid-1990s, working alongside his father as the shop expanded to meet growing demand. Nearly 20 years ago, the business became part of the ProColor Collision network. Today, Alain’s sons have joined the operation, continuing the family’s involvement in the business.
“This has always been about perseverance and family,” said Alain McDermott, owner of ProColor Collision Cowansville. “What began as a difficult moment in our history became the foundation for what we’ve built over the years. We’re proud to see a fourth generation carrying that legacy forward.”
The collision repair centre remains active in the Cowansville community through scholarships, work-study opportunities, and support for local organizations.
“For me, it’s more than running a business,” McDermott said. “It’s about creating a positive workplace where our employees feel valued, while giving back to the community that has supported us for so many years.”
The facility has also continued to invest in new technologies, including advanced driver assistance systems, calibration equipment and an automated paint mixing system. The shop has expanded its workforce and continues to invest in technician training, equipment, and facility improvements.
“ProColor Collision Cowansville demonstrates how a family-owned business can evolve while remaining true to its roots,” said Éric Léveillé, regional vice-president for Quebec at Fix Network. “The McDermott family has combined a long-standing commitment to its community with ongoing investments in technology and professional development.”
As it approaches two decades as part of the ProColor Collision network, the shop continues to focus on quality repairs, technological advancement, and community involvement while building on a family legacy that spans four generations.
